Great Zimbabwe

The name Zimbabwe came from Dzimbahwe the name of the ruins found in Masvingo. Dzimbahwe means houses of stones. Great Zimbabwe was built and occupied between the 12th and 15th centuries. At the peak of its power and prosperity in the 13th and 14th centuries, the town was the largest settlement in Southern Africa.


The stone structure still stand up to this day and visitors are taken for a 3 hour guided tour of the monument. The monument is rich with the history of the country and there is a museum which has artefacts which were found in the monument.
